Title: Moonlight Seduction by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Release date: June 26th, 2018

The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel…

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up… and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman… one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

Cand apare X carte de la Cassandra Clare

Update viitoarele aparitii literare ale Cassandrei Calre. Sursa: Cassandra Clare Tumblr

I’ve noticed some confusion about my publication schedule, which makes total sense, since it’s pretty complicated right now! Here’s a bit of description to clarify the projects I have going on and when they will be coming out.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market

This is a series of short stories that focus on Jem/Brother Zachariah. They will be published serially as ebooks, with one story coming out each month between April-November 2018. Like The Bane Chronicles and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, these short stories are collaborations between me and a talented group of writers, in this case Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Robin Wasserman, and Kelly Link!

(All of the Ghost of the Shadow Market stories will be collected in a print edition along with two bonus stories, likely coming out in the summer of 2019.)

The stories:

April 2018: Son of the Dawn, with Sarah Rees Brennan. Set in 2000. Jace meets the Lightwoods for the first time!

May 2018: Cast Long Shadows, with Sarah Rees Brennan. Set in 1901. A visit to the Shadow Market changes Matthew Fairchild’s life forever.

June 2018: Every Exquisite Thing, with Maureen Johnson. Set in the early 1900s. The story of Anna Lightwood’s first love!

July 2018: Learn about Loss, with Kelly Link. Set in the 1930s. Brother Zachariah visits a dark carnival and dabbles in demon-summoning.

August 2018: A Deeper Love, with Maureen Johnson. Set in the 1940s. Tessa Gray and Catarina Loss pose as nurses in order to aid suffering mundane humans during WW2.

September 2018: The Wicked Ones, with Robin Wasserman. Set in 1989/90. Celine Montclaire encounters Valentine Morgenstern for the first time.

October 2018: The Land I Lost, with Sarah Rees Brennan. Set in 2012. Alec Lightwood and Lily Chen go to Buenos Aires to help rebuild in the wake of the Dark War, and Alec meets an orphaned Shadowhunter child.

November 2018: Through Blood, Through Fire, with Robin Wasserman. Set in 2012. A dark threat is looming over a child of the Shadow Market, and Jem Carstairs and Tessa Gray may be the only ones who can save him.

Upcoming books:

The Golden Tower (Magisterium 5)

September 11, 2018

This is it! The final book in the series! Callum Hunt’s destiny is sealed.

Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifices 3)

December 4, 2018

The last book of the trilogy sets in motion events that will change the Shadow World forever.

The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses 1)

March 2019

Magnus and Alec planned to go on a nice peaceful vacation after the Dark War. They weren’t planning on encountering stolen memories, dark secrets, vicious demons, and murderous cultists. Suddenly their European tour looks a lot more like work, but both are still determined to enjoy it!

Ghosts of the Shadow Market print edition

No exact date yet, probably Summer 2019

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours 1)

No exact date yet, likely sometime between September-November 2019

This is the beginning of a new Shadowhunter trilogy set during the Edwardian Era! The children of Tessa, Will, and the other characters from the Infernal Devices have grown up in a far less frightening world than their parents did. But trouble is brewing amid their boating parties and balls. Revenge, prejudice, and obsession lie hidden beneath the surface of their world, and a mysterious illness has begun to strike Shadowhunters down…

The Lost Book of the White (The Eldest Curses 2)

Likely March 2020

Magnus and Alec thought the adventures of their far-too-eventful vacation were long past. But old friends and old enemies linger, and the story continues…

Chain of Iron (The Last Hours 2)

Once again, likely to come out in Fall (September-November) 2020

The story of James, Lucie, Cordelia and their friends continues.

2021: After this everything gets a little fuzzy. Publications aren’t scheduled this far out, but we’ve still got The Last Hours 3, The Eldest Curses 3, and Sword Catcher on the horizon!

Review Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens

Thoughtless (Thoughtless #1) by S.C. Stephens

Description: For almost two years now, Kiera’s
boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender and
endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives
together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university,
everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple
Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected
source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend that
she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And
then one night everything changes…and none of them will ever be the same.

Must read! Must have!

Genres: New
Adult, Contemporary Romance

Recommended for: fans of New Adult romance and intense stories

My opinions:

Oh. My.
God. This book:

May I admit
that I love love love this book but I
kinda hate it too? I’m freaking overwhelmed and exhausted after that emotional
rollercoaster! But you wanna know the reason? The love triangle. No,
scratch that. The only reason is Kiera -_-

“What if I
don’t choose you, Kellan? What will you do?”

He looked away, a tear rolling down his cheek. “I’ll leave, Kiera. I’ll leave,
and you and Denny can have your happily ever after.” He looked back at me. “You
wouldn’t even need to tell him about me. Eventually, the two of you…” his voice
broke and another tear fell on his cheek, “the two of you would get married,
and have children, and have a great life.”

I fought back a sob. “And you? What happens to you in that scenario?”

“I…get by. And I miss you, every day,” he whispered.”

But let me
start from the beginning. The book is told from Kiera’s POV, a young woman who
follows her boyfriend Denny in Seattle after he graduated and who enrolls at
the local University just to be with him. I loooved Denny and his sweet, loyal
personality. He’s good looking, intelligent, devoted and charming. Oh, and
Australian – always good for a sexy little accent 😉 They’re moving in Kellan
Kyle’s house, Denny’s best friend from high school, who’s also a sing leader in
a famous local band named D-Bags. <—
Does that sentence look a little bit too goody-goody to describe Kellan
Kyle? Well then let me try again. Ahem.

Kellan Kyle. Yep, that
was me having a total fan-girling moment. *sigh*

Kiera is
attracted to him from moment No. 1, but she just blaims it on his ridiculuosly
good looks. She also gets a new job as a waitress at Pete’s, the bar where
Kellan’s band plays. But Denny gets an amazing new job also that forces him to
leave in Tucson for two months, leaving Kiera behind with Kellan for a hell a
lot of time. And this, my darlings, is where the fun (and pull-hairing) begins…

“He said I was
his heart, and you don’t leave your heart behind. You can’t live without your

lonely and depressed after Denny leaves and Kellan is right there to comfort
her. They start a wonderful easy going friendship that had me swooning over the
guy. But when the sparks between them start to flame, I just knew there was
going to be an incendiary collision that will leave burning consequences

“We were never
innocent, Kiera. How naive are you?”

After a
fight with Denny, Kiera makes two decisions that decide her path instantly that
– ha, did you honestly think I’ll tell you how the whole story unwraps? Really?
No, not this time ladies, because I want you to pick up the book and go through
the same emotional-yet-beautiful torture I’ve been through. Muhaha… *grins*

At least
the ending was great and left me totally hooked. Heart-warming yet
heartbreaking, intense yet light, sexy yet pure and lovely. Loved it!

“I don’t know
how to let you back in.” My heart beat spiked and I closed my eyes when he
whispered,” I don’t know how to keep you out either.”

My favorite
character was definitely the godlike swoon/drool/crush/rape worthy Kellan Kyle.
He made me laugh out loud and smile all the time. But don’t let that perfectly
face of his fool you – he’s broken, lost and hopeless. My eyes watered when he
told his story, the little glimpes of pain he expressed shocking me on a whole
new level. I just wanted to hug, kiss and protect him like I’d be his momma
bear. Regardless, you’ll fall head over your heels in love with him.

“He spoke
rapidly in-between his tender kisses. “I love you. I’m sorry. I’m so
sorry. The women…I was so scared to touch you. You didn’t want me…I
couldn’t take the pain. I tried to get over you. Every time with them, I was
with you. I’m so sorry…I love you.”

And Denny,
oh dear God, Denny! Sweet, loyal, charming Denny. My heart broke for him time
after time, hoping he’ll get out of this mess. But when the lies and insecurities
about Kiera started to show, the feelings he must’ve felt left me in a
depressed mode. At the end of the book, there was such an intense and emotional
slap in the face for him that he just exploded. I wanted to take him under my
wing and protect him from all the lies and complots. He didn’t deserve any of

“I want to be
someone’s everything. I want fire and passion, and love that’s returned,
equally. I want to be someone’s heart.”

secondary characters were, in one word, amazing. I loved the guys (okay,
besides Griffin), Jenny, Anna, Kate and everyone else around. They lighted up
the mood and pushed me through the confusing feelings I felt over the whole
love triangle situation and for that I’ll be always grateful.

“Dude, he’s
Australian…not a pirate.”

And this is
where I stop with my totally-fan-girlin’-rambling and just complain about one thing.
One single tiny character I haven’t approached. Kiera.

“There were so
many secrets between us now, it was hard remembering a time when things had
been simple & easy, when it had felt like pure puppy love. I suppose all
love eventually comes back down to earth.”

Who the
hell does what she did???? Ruining a wonderful relationship with Denny?? Now
don’t get me wrong, I’m all Team Kellan, but alternating between two amazing
guys, leading them on and on and being unable to just freaking choose made me
want to strangle her 99,99 % of the book. She was annoying, selfish, immature
and she didn’t deserve Kellan nor Denny. I really wanted to shake her, slap
her, pull her hair – really, anything would’ve worked. She hurt both guys  on countless times and my heart ached
constantly for them. But somehow I managed to get through her issues and finish
the book (hooray!), because regardless of her personality, this book is a

Stephens created complex characters, confusing desires and overwhelming stories
in this book. Thoughtless was quite the page turner with all the sexy, steamy
scences, heartbreaking revelations and the funny lines that cheered me up
completely. An addictive story that will leave you breathless, gasping for
more, although the ending doesn’t have a cliffhanger. So I recommend it to
everyone who loves a good love triangle and has the patience to finish the
book. I guarantee that in the end you’ll love it. ❤

“It was
heartfelt, it was heartbreaking. It was extreme joy, it was bone-crushing
grief. It was fiery hot, it was icy-cold. It was true love sprouting… it was
true love dying.
It’s like we were both trying to hold onto something that was slipping through
our fingers, and we didn’t understand why.”

was his soul made flesh, the truth of him laid bare in the blazing sun, shorn
of mystery and shadow. This was the truth behind the handsome face and the
miraculous powers, the truth that was the dead and empty space between the
stars, a wasteland peopled by frightened monsters.”
Well, if
you have, then you probably get my feelings now. If you haven’t, here’s a short

I adored Shadow and Bone! Devoured it in like 7
hours – and I was disturbed from my reading only by life-altering decisions
(what shall we eat?) and emergencies. But let me explain a little bit more
about what I loved *grins*

1. The world building & original mythology

Guys, the
world building is phenomenal! We’re introduced to the world of Ravka (which is
inspired by Russia and its folklore), a country ruled by royals. You see, Ravka
has two Armies: the First Army and the Second Army. And the last one is made of
powerful Grisha – people with magical abilities.
There are
terms that could be a bit complicated to understand (Oprichnik,
Corporalki, Etherealki) but
trust me: in two chapters tops, you’ll have the hang of it and you’ll know who’s
who. There’s fashion (kefta) and
drinks (kvas). Oh, and monsters (volcra). Brr.

But let’s
not forget the actual Ravka. It’s amazingly described and totally original. Its
lands, Os Alta (the capital), the architecture, the politics. Plus, The Fold! Wowza.

2. The characters

Alina – she is the main character and the one that
narrates the story. An orphan who doesn’t remember her family, Alina is a
cartographer in the First Army when she discovers she has a latent power – she’s
the Sun Summoner. And in the kingdom where darkness makes the rules, she’s the
missing piece of the puzzle.

I loved her
to tiny pieces! I connected with her and I ended up considering her a
long-time-no-see friend. She’s shy and candid, but smart, witty and brave. She
has this innocence that matches her power and exudes light. At the end of the
novel, you can see she’s stronger and more confident.
did you fare with the Queen?” he asked.

“I have no idea,” I said honestly. “Everything she said was
perfectly nice, but the whole time she was looking at me as if I were something
her dog spit up.”

Mal – Alina’s best friend and her only trusted
companion. He’s great and swoon-worthy! I wasn’t much of his fan initially, but
he grew on me. His natural charm, his good looks, his funny jokes, his deeply
care for Alina… Plus, he knows how to use big guns. Hmm. Yep, Mal is the
epithome of the perfect boyfriend, but I always thought his relationship with Alina
is a little bit forced. He doesn’t understand her. Still, this boy is wonderful
*batting eyelashes*

don’t care if you danced naked on the roof of the Little Palace with him. I
love you, Alina, even the part of you that loved him.”
The Darkling – oh my GOD. Let the rambling begin.
From the
beginning, I loved him. He was alluring and mysterious. The Darkling is
hundreds of years old, we don’t know his true name, he is the leader of the
Grisha and the Second Army and he controls darkness. He takes Alina under his
wing and offers her training and new life. And believe me, bookworms everywhere,
those two… Together? Light and darkness? Ying and yang? Incendiary. There’s a
certain kiss that involves them and I was hyperventilating. Holy sweet baby
Jesus! Squeeee! I actually did squeee. And I never did that. NEVER.
problem with wanting,” he whispered, his mouth trailing along my jaw until
it hovered over my lips, “is that it makes us weak.”

BUT there’s a little detail I won’t give away that
changes absolutely everything. I’m not gonna leave you hanging so I’ll just
show you how I felt at the revelation:

Sigh. The only thing that is missing is
the little gesture that he’s human. That he’s redeemable…

And my love for him did waver then,
but not enough to lose my faith in him.

“I hope you don’t expect fairness from me, Alina. It
isn’t one of my specialties.”
But nonetheless, I’m Team Darkling. So please
excuse the following obsession evidence. Muhahaha.

The Darkling is COMPLEX.
To shake
any confussion… THE ULTIMATE BAD BOY!

“I’m not used to people trying to kill me.”

“Really? I hardly notice anymore.”

Genya – aww, I liked her! Beautiful, sassy, sharp-tongued
and a little bit broken. She doesn’t care what other people think about her and
she always follows her gut.
Zoya – Arghh. That biii…ngo. *cough* Oh, damn it.
I’ll just say it – she’s a bitch. And a vain one too.
The Apparat – that man is creepy as hell. I get chills
down my spine just remembering him.
Baghra – she was actually one of my favorite
characters. She earned my respect with her no-comments attitude (which was kind
of funny)and I ended up missing her training sessions with Alina. Old lady or
not, she’s a bad ass.
3. The relationships – well, we have a love triangle. But
it’s a conflicting one, because, let’s be honest, the Darkling’s evil
(deliciously so) and Mal’s the best friend turned love interest. It’s very similar
to the love triangle from Shatter Me
by Tahereh Mafi where I support Warner, the bad boy. Again.
I’m the Darkling’s prisoner?”

“You’re under his protection.”

“What’s the difference?”

“Pray you never find out.”

Darkling understands Alina better and even if he wants her for her power, I
believe that somewhere deep, deep, very deep inside him he really cares for
her. Maybe even love her a little.
been waiting for you a long time, Alina” He said. “You and I are
going to change the world.”
this triangle is well written and gut-wrenching. You’ll be in for a hell of a ride!

also the friendship between Alina and Genya, little glimpses of joy in our
heroine’s grim life. They were wonderful!
4. The atmosphere, the plot, the twists &
the pace
Shadow and Bone is good at details. The author plays out the
events nicely and there are no confusions regarding the plot.

constantly this weight on your shoulders during the book. It keeps you engaged in
the action and at the edge of your seat. The suspense was KILLING ME,
especially at the end. I turned on the lights at some moment, because all that
talk about darkness and its monsters were scaring the crap outta me.

The pace
was… perfect, may I say. Considering S&S starts with some introduction and
then BAM! the domino pieces start to fall, the story is really balanced. It’s
not rushed, so the readers aren’t overwhelmed. It’s not slooooow – otherwise you
wouldn’t be reading this review, because I often don’t finish such books. We have
lots and lots of action. Epic battles, training, jaw-dropping twists and turns that
changed everything. They weren’t just simple “Oh, I didn’t think at that” kind
of twists, but full bombs with revelations that toyed with my heart strings and
made my eyes go O.O.
But we also
have dancing, gossiping, parties and jokes. And the mix is hands down amazing 🙂
much champagne?”

“Silly girl,” she said, looping her arm through mine. “There’s no such thing as
too much champagne. Though your head will try to tell you otherwise tomorrow.”

OH. And
there’s a tiny cliffhanger. Nothing major, but you’ll want book 2 nearby.
5. The writing style is pure awesomesauce. The words were
flowing easily and everything felt natural. The descriptions and the dialogue were
great! Leigh Bardugo created a great story with her new elements and the simple
idea of darkness. Or most likely, what awaits
in the darkness. I am soo thankful she wrote this book! I’m definitely a fan!
the memory of the Darkling’s kiss blew through me and rattled my concentration,
scattering my thoughts like leaves and making my heart swoop and dive like a
bird borne aloft by uncertain currents.”
Shadow and Bone was an exquisite blend of action, romance,
suspense and fantasy! Seriously unputdownable. Unique. Incredibly dark.
Addictive. Epic. One of the best books I’ve read this year and definitely one
of my all time favorites.
I never
wanted it to end and I can honestly say I was blown away by it. I laughed, I
gasped, I was left shocked and in denial and I was mesmerized by this gorgeous
new world!
Read it
ASAP! I know I regreted not reading this for a freaking year… Also, there’s a
movie in the works, so what better time?? Especially since the sequel just came

Soon, this amazing book will be published at Editura TREI. (Thank you!)

Review Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

Must read!

Genres: Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy
fans of
Paranormal Romance books and fans of the Lux series

Holy freaking aliens everywhere!

Obsession is a great spin-off of one
of my favourite series EVER — Lux by
Jennifer L. Armentrout. It’s a hot, funny, romantic, action-packed and
well-written novel. Oh, and confusing, but I’ll get to that later. So what is this book about? Well, Hunter, who’s an Arum (aka a badass and
ubersmexy alien) is working with the Department of Defense to keep control of
the growing population of Luxen. He receives the task to watch over (or as he
says, babysitt) Serena Cross, a twenty three woman who witnessed her best
friend getting killed by an alien.

I’m not gonna get into details, ’cause that would ruin all the fun for you. The
point is that they’re stuck with each other and in that period of time they
start developing feelings. Of course, after the part where they just give in to
the sizzling chemistry and off-the-charts attraction between them.

“Well, wrap me up and call me a
Christmas baby. Hunter with a female – a
human female.”
I loved
Serena and Hunter! They complete each other perfectly! She’s the feisty,
stubborn and sharp tongued type of girl and he’s an arrogant, dangerous,
infuriantingly sexy alpha male. Serena’s also strong and honorable and her
non-judgemental ways made me respect her. Hunter, although he could be scarry
as hell, was never a jerk or an asshole. Definitely a smartass, but not rude.
So big thumbs up for that!
“At least I now knew that the male
species were asses no matter what planet they hailed from.”
two together? BUM-BANG-WRUM-WOWZA-Ohmygawd-Holy-Hotness! *hyperventilating*
Darkness and light, ying and yang. Their relationship evolved quickly, but in a
natural way. First, just pure lust. Then it became something deeper, based on
the feeling of safety, trust and eventually love.
„She was light against my
darkness. Serena hadn’t backed away or hesitated. She accepted me, all of me.
She always had.”

But enough of that
romantic gibberish, because Obsession
has plenty of fights and battles between Calvin-Klein-models-lookalikes and the
visuals I was getting were pretty hot. But really now, we learn a lot of things
in this installment that made my jaw drop and changed my opinion about everything
I’d known from the previous books. And why did I say it was confusing? Because
there are good Arum and bad Luxen — really cruel ones, I might add. My brain
kept changing sides and I was like “Whoa!
What the heck am I supposed to believe??”
Simply put, shit got real.

“Well, the good guys really
weren’t typical. They really weren’t the good guys at all, but if I discovered
anything, there was no such thing as white and black. There was a lot of gray
in the middle.”
But Obsession leaves all the crap about interracial war behind and ends
on a happy, romantic and smoking hot tone. Sure, the story will continue in the
sequels of the YA series and it will reveal more of this fascinating world, but
I’d love to come back to Serena and Hunter!

Oh, oh, oh! I almost forgot *wink* There’s
something that we get as a bonus for the complete torture of waiting for Origin: a little glimpse at
Daemon-freaking-Black!!! *squeee*
Hopefully, the fill will last me until August 27th when the book comes out. But
I wouldn’t bet on it -_-

This being said — err, written — Obsession
was amazing. It can be read as a standalone or as a volume of the initial
series, but, nonetheless, JLA didn’t dissapoint. She rocks her writing mojo
like no other and I loved seeing this phenomenal world she has created from an
adult and very different perspective, since the Arum was initially presented
to the readers as the ultimate enemies.

It’s shocking and it messed with my brain. It’s hilarious, sexy and
swoon-worthy. It keeps you glued to the pages and connected to a great set of
characters. Its plot is built extremely well and the SF part introduces us to a
whole new side of the Luxen vs. Arum epic war.

Yep, it’s everything I was hoping for and more!

My opinion:

I really feel the need to fangirl. Over Cinder. Over Marissa Meyer. Over every
single thing about this book! I knew it was supposed to be amazing from all the
reviews and I had high expectations. But, oh my God, it surpassed them all! Cinder is an exquisite opening book to a
series that promises a-hell-of-a-ride.
was a cyborg, and she would never go to a ball.”

Cinder, the main character, is a 17 years old cyborg
that works as a mechanic. She’s known to be the best in town and when Prince
Kaito’s android doesn’t function, he brings it to her. When her youngest
stepsister gets Letumosis, an illness that has no cure and that decimated the
population in the last years, Cinder’s legal guardian Adri accuses her of
bringing the plague to their home. She then volunteers Cinder against her will
to participate in some tests that have the goal to find a cure to Letumosis.
That means she pretty much sentenced Cinder to a painful and slow death,
because no one survived the medical procedures. Until now.
“I don’t know. I don’t actually remember
anything from before the surgery.”

His eyebrows rose, his blue eyes sucking in all the light of the room.
“The cybernetic operation?”

“No, the sex change.”

The doctor’s smile faltered.

“I’m joking.”

I loved Cinder! She’s brave, smart, strong, funny and
kind — of course, to the people that deserve her kindness. And she’s selfless.
My heart died a couple of times because of how heartbroken she felt and,
sometimes, of mortification. Seriously, this girl is as tough as nails! Not
only she sacrifices herself for the safety of others, but she doesn’t let
embarrassment get to her. I, on the other hand, would’ve died on the spot. *shudders*
“I’m sure I’ll feel much more grateful when
I find a guy who thinks complex wiring in a girl is a turn-on.”
Prince Kaito is one of those book boyfriends that just
make you sigh. Why? Well, first of all, he’s a goddamn prince; second of all, he’s handsome, charming and sexy, but he’s
also sweet, honorable and honest. Kai cares for his people and he would do
anything to save his country and those facts alone make him even more perfect!
“You could move to Europe.”

“You know, I’ve actually been considering that lately.”

Kai laughed again, the warmth returning to the sound. “If that’s not a
vote of confidence, I don’t know what is.”

The romantic aspect of this book is not an element the
author insists on. There’s no insta-love, so the relationship gradually
evolves. We have two characters who clearly like each other, but I got the
feeling from the alternative POVs that Cinder is more smitten about Kai than
vice versa. I hope I’m not right, because I’d love them as a couple and I’m
sure that at some point in the series they will get together, but I kept
waiting for that moment to happen while reading Cinder. Unfortunately, it did not. But we still have the chemistry
and the hot tension between those two, so I guess that should compensate for
the lack of “action” aka many many kissy scenes. For now.
“Maybe her programming was overwhelmed by Prince
Kai’s uncanny hotness.”

Cinder flinched. “Can we please not talk about the prince?”

“I don’t think that will be possible. You’re working on his android, after all.
Just think about the things she knows, the things she’s seen and—” Iko’s voice
sputtered. “Do you think she’s seen him in the nude?”

“Oh, for heaven’s sake.” Cinder yanked off her gloves and tossed them onto the
table. “You’re not helping.”

“I’m just making conversation.”

Iko is probably my favorite character. You see, she’s
an android and Cinder’s friend, but unlike other robots, she has a personality
chip with issues. Meaning she isn’t a heartless machine. She has feelings,
thoughts and opinions. Sarcastic and hilarious opinions.
Iko rolled to her side, clasping her metal
grippers over her chest. “Prince Kai! Check my fan, I think I’m overheating.”

Another person I loved was Peony, although we didn’t
get much time with her. She’s a kind, sweet, curious and innocent young girl and
I could see that she really loved Cinder.
Unlike Peony, Adri (Cinder’s stepmother) and Pearl
(Cinder’s oldest stepsister) were bad to the bone! I hated them! They were
manipulative, selfish and down-wright mean. I wanted a hover to drop them in some
river from far, far away.
“My only mistake was in waiting too long to
be rid of you”, Adri said, running the washcloth between her fingers.
“Believe me, Cinder. You are a sacrifice I will never regret.”
The world-building is pure awesomeness! I mean, come
on! We have cyborgs, androids, monarchy and people living on the freaking moon (those
are the Lunars) all in the same world! The action is set in New Beijing, the
capital of Eastern Commonwealth, one of the six countries that rule the world
since the World War IV.
Queen Levana was a character I loved to hate. Simply
put, she’s awful. Now that I think about it, Adri has nothing on Levana. The
Lunar queen is a true villain: she’s vicious, evil and only cares for her
well-being. The interest for her people? Bullocks. Levana’s like a viper ready
to attack at any second and she makes sure the other characters know she’s the
one who has the real power.

Dr. Erland was an interesting character. I don’t know
if he’s the masculine equivalent of the fairy Godmother, but he earned my trust
by protecting Cinder and that gives him a thumbs up from me. He’s crazy-smart,
ambitious and a bit lunatic, but he’s on the good team 🙂
The plot was very complex! We have the intergalactic
war between the Lunars and the Earthen looming on the horizon, the Letumosis
issue and Cinder’s plan to escape town and live her life in New Beijing behind.
All these weave flawlessly into a gorgeous and very strong storyline with the help
of a few twists and turns.
The pace was great! I pulled an all-nighter with Cinder, because I couldn’t let go of the
story and characters. I kept looking at the page count, dreading the moment
I’ll finish reading, because there were so many things that needed to happen
and not enough time! The mixture of political intrigue, dystopian vibe, romantic
fairy tale, action and sarcasm kept me at the edge of my seat.
“He wouldn’t even dance with Levana at the
stupid ball if he could help it- to hell with diplomacy.”
Okay, time to talk about the major twist in the book.
Well, I saw it coming. Like miles before it actually happened. I kept hoping
that my theory will come true. And it did! After my “Ha! I knew it” moment, I was so excited to see how the
new information will affect the characters, because it sure changed things. *happy dance* So I can say that, from my
perspective, the plot was a bit predictable, but that fact didn’t stop me from
falling in love with the story at all.

The ending to Cinder is a hell-of-a-cliffhanger. I
feel like bragging about it. I don’t think I’ll start Scarlet, the sequel to this amazing debut, anytime soon. The
thought that Cress, the third volume,
will be out in February makes me cringe, complain and demand an ARC so I can
get my greedy hands on all of them and read them back to back. Don’t even start
me on Winter, which will be released
in 2015. A time machine, anyone? Please?? *puppy
Marissa Meyer showed me with this book that she has
an imaginative mind and off-the-charts great writing skills. She escalated
quickly to a “one of my favorite authors” status. I can’t believe I
didn’t read Cinder sooner, because
the hype around it should’ve convinced me already that this book is beyond

I’m still living in the fascinating and unique world
that Marissa Meyer created. I’m still dreaming about Prince Kai with my eyes wide
open. I’m still imagining different scenarios about Cinder’s fate. I’m still
mentally murdering Queen Levana. This being said, I cannot recommend this book
enough. It’s an incredible retelling of the Cinderella story and the futuristic
setting makes it even more awe-inspiring. Put your hands on this book NOW or
just wait for all the installments to get published since they’re so addictive
(it’ll be a while, the last one will be out in 2015). Nonetheless, this series
